Ching-Wen Chang's inspiration for Xit came from the common discomfort experienced during long periods of standing or waiting in line. Recognizing the need for a portable and practical solution, Chang designed Xit, a bag that transforms into a chair, providing immediate relief for tired feet.
What sets Xit apart from other designs is its dual functionality. As a bag, it serves the daily needs of carrying items. However, with a simple step of opening, it transforms into a chair, providing a comfortable seat wherever needed. This unique property makes Xit a practical accessory for everyday use.
The realization of Xit involved the use of breathable fabric for the seat cover, ensuring a comfortable sitting experience. The main structure, designed to bear the weight of the user, is lightweight yet strong. The bag also features a foldable form and zips on both sides for easy access to stored items.
The design of Xit is not only functional but also fashionable. With dimensions of 300 mm in width, 300 mm in depth, and 380 mm in height, it is compact yet spacious enough to carry daily essentials. The design tags associated with Xit include "chairlike," "transforming," "bag," "fashion," "sit," "rest," and "everywhere," reflecting its multifunctional nature and stylish appeal.
The project, which started in October 2015 and concluded in December 2015 in Taiwan, involved extensive research into the common problem of lack of seating in public spaces. The design challenges included finding a product that people use daily and developing a simple, easy-to-use solution. The result, Xit, is a testament to Chang's innovative thinking and design prowess.
Ching-Wen Chang's Xit has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the prestigious Silver A' Fashion and Travel Accessories Design Award in 2017. This award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill, further cementing Xit's place in the world of design.
